9 STAINLESS BRAKE PINS DIRT BIKES BRAKE PINS HI-TECH BRAKE SOLUTIONS MADE IN EUROPE The SBS stainless brake pin range covers the most common MX and Enduro bikes from the early 1990s until today. The range comprises 5 complete sets, front and rear together, but are also available as single packs with only the front or rear to the respective model. Brake pad pins get wear grooves after a while. This means that for most reference numbers in the SBS brake pad range, you can find a corresponding SBS brake disc. THE RANGE The SBS brake disc range comprises three basic programs, making it easy to choose according to individual needs: 1. 5xxx – standard OEM brake discs 2. 6xxx – Upgrade brake discs 3. 7xxx – Oversize brake discs DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR MX The SBS OVERSIZE disc range (7xxx) is especially developed for off-road front brake use for more stopping power and better brake feeling. 12 HI-TECH BRAKE SOLUTIONS MADE IN EUROPE TIPS & TRICKS BEDDING-IN Bedding-in of brake pads and discs is very important to obtain the best and correct performance, without damaging or destroying any of the parts, and to avoid glazing of the brake pads. In short, it is about achieving 100% mechanical contact between the brake disc and the brake pad without adding too much thermal and mechanical load to the brake components. In motorcross this is best achieved by riding 1-2 slow laps on the track or 2-4 times on a gravel road without too much mud that can stick to the disc. The sole purpose is to brake as easily as possible, as many times as possible, without generating heat in the braking system. ! ATTENTION ! If you mount new brake pads in combination with a used brake disc, beware of unevenness in the surface of the brake disc caused by soil and gravel. This will require additional bedding-in over 4-5 slow laps to achieve recommended mechanical contact between brake disc and brake pad. SERVICE & MAINTENANCE SBS Racing receives many questions on how to service the brake system on MX bikes. To achieve perfect braking performance, point 1 is that the braking system must be 100% free of air. Spend the necessary and preferably a little extra time on a serious bleeding of calipers, brake hoses, banjo-bolts & couplings and master cylinder. We recommend using the SBS Brake System Bleeder for bleed your brake system. MINIMUM BRAKE PAD THICKNESS BEWARE OF THE PIN For normal use of SBS brake pads, it is recommended for all references to change for new brake pads when approximately 2.0 mm of the friction material remains. On circuits with heavy mechanical and thermal load on the brake system and brake pads, it may be an advantage to replace the brake pads earlier to reduce the above described bad habits such as front wheel drag and warped backing plates. Riding offroad puts more vibration onto the brake system as both the turf is more bouncy and the environment exposes the brake system to dirt, water and dust. This also puts more pressure on the brake pins holding the brake discs in. We recommend replacing the pins often, to avoid stiction and brake performance below expectancy.
